Chocolate Chip Cookies

I made my first chocolate chip cookies almost a year ago.  While it wasn't really a disaster, it wasn't the best either.  At that time, they were my best and I was just happy to have made my very own chocolate chip cookies.   I've heard people talk about their "best chocolate chip cookies ever" and I need to have my "the best ever" too.   Besides, if I were to be completely honest, my first few endeavors were mediocre at best.  Thank goodness for those chocolate chips, they're the saving grace of those cookies.  I have this twisted theory when I was just starting-- that I should use good quality choco chips so that even if I fail with the dough, the cookies will still turn out ok because they've got loads of good choco chips.  The twisted theory worked.  The cookies still ended in our waistline tummies.

Soft and chewy cookies, that's our kind of choco chip cookies.  Therefore, the search for the best chocolate chip cookie recipe continues.  One never stops until the goal is achieved.   Soft and chewy became my goal.    And as a believer of happy endings, I'm happy to say that I did find "the one".  I made it and just knew that this time it's really my "the best ever".  Might not be your "the best ever" but it did fit our soft and chewy requirement.   I tried a couple more recipes but they did not have the same sparks as my "the best ever" recipe.  I am sharing my "the best ever chocolate chip cookies", but please don't blame me if this isn't the hottest choco chip cookies for you.  Perhaps, you need to search for your "the best ever" too.

Too lazy to type in the recipe, but click here in case you want to see it yourself.

Odd-shaped cookies, November 2009
The odd-shaped cookies on the right photo is the, uhmm, mediocre cookie.  The recipe of which, I don't need anymore.  The "pizza cookie" on the left photo was made using the original Martha recipe.  They were soft and chewy.  I tried chilling the dough for a couple of hours after shaping them.  The large photo at the top of the page was the result.  They're easier to bake in a sense that it didn't spread that much, resulting in a rounder/fatter and better-looking cookies.   They turned out a little cakey after baking but tasted better the next day.  I actually got the taste and texture I've been looking for after letting it rest overnight.  I also made two sizes: large and small.  And if it doesn't entail more work, I would always do the small version.  They'd be easier and more fun to eat and you always get the feeling of wanting more.  That's one of the things we aspire for anyway.  The feeling that our beloved can't get enough of us.  It's the same with cooking or baking.  We want to always be desirable.  And yummy.  And fun.

The search for "the best ever" is over for me.  Go find yours too.
